After acquiring a 2016 Club Car Carryall 1700 SE diesel 4×4 from an Alabama fire department with 1400 hours on it for $7.8k, the journey of refurbishment and customization began. Initial tasks included essential maintenance like changing fluids (oil, differential, transfer case, coolant, and brake fluid) and meticulous cleaning to remove Alabama clay. New floor panels were installed, enhanced with boat deck cushioning for added comfort. Upgrading to LED headlights and brake lights improved visibility, and auxiliary cree spotlights were added for enhanced illumination. Future plans involve installing a stereo and speakers for entertainment.
The suspension and roll cage are currently being disassembled for sandblasting and repainting to combat rust and wear. Fabrication projects are underway, including a custom brush guard with a winch mount and aluminum roof racks designed to carry items like ladder stands, fishing poles, and surfboards. The aggressive 489 tires are being replaced with less abrasive ones better suited for asphalt driving.
However, the search for specific aftermarket and crossover parts has proven challenging. Finding a folding windshield, digital speedometer/tachometer, and seat covers for this model has been difficult. Despite these parts-sourcing hurdles, the Carryall 1700 SE has exceeded expectations, offering superior suspension compared to a ’95 DS CarryAll 2 Plus and ample space. Its 4×4 Intellitrak system excels in demanding work conditions, hauling tools and supplies through sand, mud, and marshy terrains. Beyond work, it serves recreational purposes, transporting boats, surfboards, and equipment for hunting and beach trips.
