Toyota Land Cruiser Convertible 2024: Rox Concept Leads Toyota’s SEMA Showstoppers

Toyota is gearing up for SEMA 2024 with the unveiling of two striking concept vehicles that are sure to capture attention. Known for their bold designs and off-road prowess, Toyota is pushing boundaries with a Land Cruiser convertible and a two-door 4Runner, signaling exciting possibilities for future models.

The spotlight shines brightly on the Land Cruiser Rox, an open-air marvel crafted by Calty Design, the same innovative team behind the current Supra and other contemporary Toyota designs. Taking the iconic Land Cruiser and reimagining it for open-top adventures, Calty Design removed the C- and D-pillars and replaced the standard roof with a custom-designed reclining soft top. To compensate for the structural changes, engineers have reinforced the chassis, ensuring rigidity and off-road capability remain uncompromised.

Beyond its convertible transformation, the Land Cruiser Rox boasts a host of rugged upgrades that amplify its off-road appeal. Half doors enhance the open-air feel, while extended fenders accommodate beefy off-road tires. A prominent light bar is integrated for enhanced visibility in challenging terrains, and steel bumpers coupled with reinforced skid plates provide robust protection. Adding to its practicality, the Rox features a functional half-tailgate complete with a swing-out spare tire mount, ensuring easy access in any situation.

Joining the Land Cruiser Rox in Toyota’s SEMA lineup is the retro-inspired 4Runner TRD Surf concept. This model pays homage to the Southern California beach culture of the 1980s, injecting a dose of nostalgia into Toyota’s modern off-road lineup. The 4Runner TRD Surf adopts a two-door configuration and features a chopped roof, creating an open-air cab reminiscent of classic beach cruisers. A prominent roll bar not only adds to the aesthetic but also provides structural support and mounting points for surfboards, perfectly embodying its theme. The exterior is finished in a vibrant ocean-colored two-tone paint scheme with eye-catching turquoise accents, complemented by off-road wheels and tires and a subtly lifted suspension, completing its retro-modern look.

Underneath the hood, the 4Runner concept retains Toyota’s potent turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, delivering 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. While mechanically similar to the standard model, the TRD Surf concept distinguishes itself with a custom exhaust system, tuned to produce a deeper, more resonant sound profile. It is paired with the same smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission and a full-time four-wheel-drive system, ensuring capable performance both on and off the pavement.

Both the Land Cruiser Rox and 4Runner TRD Surf concepts are scheduled to be showcased at the Toyota booth when SEMA opens its doors next month. The SEMA show will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center from November 5th to November 8th, promising a glimpse into Toyota’s innovative design direction and future possibilities.
