For some, true luxury represents the pinnacle of everything desirable in a vehicle, such as the Toyota V-12 Century. No distinctions were made between premium, luxury, or ultra-luxury classifications. Ultimately, true luxury is subjective and immediately recognizable.
The extensive list considered included 148 models spanning over a century. Within this selection, the top 50 received multiple votes, and only the top three achieved unanimous selection, highlighting the diverse perspectives on top luxury vehicles. This process led to some surprising omissions, including numerous Mercedes-Benz models, the first-generation Lincoln Town Car, and the Humber Super Snipe. The debates among panelists were notably less contentious compared to discussions about the greatest sports cars, perhaps because the primary point of contention was which Rolls-Royce model would claim the number one spot among the top luxury vehicles.
Historically, numerous automakers have faced financial ruin in their pursuit of creating the world’s finest luxury car. Conversely, the automotive industry has also witnessed emerging manufacturers achieve maturity by venturing into the luxury segment, exemplified by Toyota’s launch of Lexus and BMW’s introduction of the 7 Series. Luxury cars represent the pinnacle of automakers’ capabilities, embodying vehicles that one aspires to own, not just drive. For those fortunate enough, their luxury car will attain classic status, solidifying its place among the top luxury vehicles for generations to come.
