Saab 9-7x Owner Review: Balancing Sporty Handling with SUV Practicality

As a Saab enthusiast and a previous TrailBlazer lessee, I wanted to share my ownership experience with the Saab 9-7x. Having driven both vehicles, I can offer a unique perspective on how the 9-7x stacks up. Interestingly, my 9-7x, with 53,000 miles on the clock, has proven to be remarkably reliable, experiencing fewer issues than my TrailBlazer did at just 28,000 miles during my lease. In fact, the only problem I’ve encountered with my 9-7x was a wheel bearing replacement, a repair that was documented in the comprehensive service history provided by the previous private seller.

There are definitely aspects of the 9-7x that stand out, both positively and negatively, and here are a few key points based on my time with the vehicle.

One of the most compelling aspects of the Saab 9-7x is its surprisingly sporty handling. This SUV genuinely offers a driving experience that’s enjoyable, even on winding roads. It’s a characteristic that sets it apart in the SUV class and makes daily driving more engaging.

Beyond its driving dynamics, the Saab 9-7x also boasts a distinctive and attractive appearance. It’s a vehicle that turns heads and frequently draws compliments, something I’ve personally experienced and appreciated as a Saab 9-7x owner.

However, it’s worth noting that tire longevity on the 9-7x can be a concern. The original equipment Dunlop SP Sport 5000 tires, in my experience, are unlikely to last beyond 50,000 miles, and that’s with conservative driving habits. For future replacements, I plan to explore alternative tire brands that might offer improved wear.

Considering Saab’s limited dealership network post-discontinuation, warranty service could be a potential challenge if your 9-7x is still under warranty. Furthermore, my personal encounters with Saab customer service have been less than impressive.

Despite these minor drawbacks, I firmly believe the 9-7x is an excellent vehicle overall. It shares many components with other TrailBlazer-based models, suggesting comparable long-term reliability. If you’re considering a 9-7x and find one with a solid history that meets your expectations, I am confident it will be a rewarding vehicle to own. I certainly love mine and appreciate the unique blend of Saab character and SUV functionality it offers.
