Meet Earl: Moira Town Hall’s Beloved Hallcat

In a heartwarming move celebrating local heritage and community spirit, the Town of Moira has officially appointed a Town Hall Cat. Meet Earl, the handsome feline now reigning over Moira Town Hall as its esteemed “Hallcat”. This unique appointment, formalized on February 9th, 2024, by the Town Supervisor under Resolution #5 of 2024, brings a touch of warmth and a dash of purr-suasion to the administrative center of Moira.

The name “Earl” itself is deeply rooted in the town’s history. When Moira was established in 1828, separating from Dickinson, it was named in honor of the Earl of Moira, an Irish peerage title. In a delightful nod to this historical connection, the adopted feline was christened Earl, becoming the purrfect embodiment of the town’s namesake.

Earl’s official duties as hallcat are twofold and charmingly appropriate. Firstly, he serves as a “good will ambassador,” a role he embraces with natural feline grace. Visitors to the Town Hall are greeted by Earl’s friendly demeanor, making him an instant favorite and a unique representative of Moira’s welcoming atmosphere. Secondly, and quite practically, Earl is tasked with “rodent deterrence and control.” This makes him not just a charming face but also a valuable, albeit unpaid, member of the Town Hall team, ensuring a pest-free environment.

Interestingly, Earl’s service to the town comes without burdening the taxpayers. All expenses related to his care – medical, well-being, food, and daily needs – are personally covered by the Town Supervisor. This ensures Earl’s pampered lifestyle as hallcat is maintained without any cost to the town’s residents. Furthermore, in a testament to the commitment to Earl’s welfare, should his services no longer be required at the Town Hall, he is guaranteed a “furever home” with the Town Supervisor.

Since his appointment as hallcat, Earl has truly embraced the life of luxury. He enjoys a spacious, comfortable domain within the Town Hall, free to roam and explore. With all his needs catered to and a constant stream of visitors providing affection, Earl has quickly adapted to his regal role. The absence of canine or feline rivals has solidified his position – Earl is undoubtedly the king of this castle, or rather, the hallcat of Moira Town Hall. He has, in every sense, become the modern-day Earl of Moira, bringing joy and a touch of feline sovereignty to the heart of the town.
