Unleashing the Beast: The 2009 Cadillac CTS-V Performance Evolution

The 2009 Cadillac Cts-v is a formidable machine straight from the factory, but for true enthusiasts, the quest for more power is never-ending. This journey of performance enhancement showcases the remarkable potential of the first-generation CTS-V, pushing its limits through careful modifications and expert tuning.

Initially, with minimal changes, this CTS-V demonstrated impressive capabilities. Running on E85 fuel and drag radial tires, while retaining stock factory rims and full weight, it clocked a 10.49-second quarter-mile at 133.6 mph. This baseline was achieved with an A6 transmission tune, ID850 injectors, a 2.55 upper pulley, and a 4.5″ intake with a green filter. The exhaust system remained largely stock, with hollowed catalytic converters, and a 160 thermostat was added alongside a flex fuel sensor and ZL1 lid. Tuned by Formato, dyno results on E70 fuel showed 624whp and 640wtq, although track performance suggested even higher output.

Further upgrades took the CTS-V to another level. Formato heads and a BT3 camshaft were installed, complemented by a Formato ice tank and Varimax pump. Porting work was done throughout, including the supercharger, and Stainless Works headers were added. This more extensive build, again tuned by Formato, resulted in 747whp and 730wtq on E72 fuel. On track, this translated to a blistering 10.08-second quarter-mile at 139.5 mph, even with a 1.51 60-foot time and spinning tires on 19-inch stock wheels with MT SS tires. This was achieved on E68 fuel with no weight reduction and street trim, proving the incredible streetability and raw power of this enhanced 2009 Cadillac CTS-V. The pursuit of 9-second passes and 140 mph trap speeds is now firmly within reach, demonstrating the continuous evolution of this high-performance platform.
