BCS Car Parts Factory in Auburn, NY to Close, Laying Off 135 Workers

BCS Automotive Interface Solutions, a manufacturer known for its Bcs Car Parts, has announced the closure of its factory located near Auburn, New York. The shutdown will result in the layoff of all 135 employees at the plant.

The company disclosed in a notice filed with the state that the facility, situated at 2150 Cranebrook Drive in Aurelius, is scheduled to cease operations on February 28, 2021. The permanent layoffs of the 135 workers are planned to occur between January 8 and February 28, 2021. This information was made public through a Worker Adjustment and Retraining (WARN) Act notice.

BCS Automotive Interface Solutions specializes in control systems for vehicle interiors. Their product line of bcs car parts includes access systems like electronic and mechanical steering column locks, passive entry systems, and remote keyless entry systems. The acronym BCS stands for Body Control Systems, highlighting their focus on essential vehicle control components.

In the official notice, BCS cited “unforeseeable business circumstances prompted by COVID-19” as the primary reason for the plant closure. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant disruptions across various industries, and the automotive sector is no exception.

However, the decision to close the Auburn plant was under consideration even before the pandemic emerged. Back in December 2019, BCS had announced it was evaluating its manufacturing footprint. The company was contemplating the closure of both the Aurelius plant and another factory in Winona, Minnesota, due to an existing slowdown in the automotive industry.

Ultimately, in March, BCS revealed its decision to proceed with the closure of the Aurelius plant while keeping the Winona facility operational. The company explained that the Winona plant was chosen due to its location within a larger campus. This campus includes an engineering center, a machine build division, and a nearby plastic injection molding plant, offering greater synergy and efficiency compared to the Auburn site for their bcs car parts manufacturing operations.

BCS Automotive Interface Solutions is a global company with a significant presence in the automotive parts industry. They employ 5,000 people across 11 manufacturing sites worldwide, supplying various bcs car parts to automotive manufacturers globally.
