Flexible Part-Time PCA Roles to Fit Your Life
We understand the need for work-life balance, which is why we are pleased to offer part-time positions with 12-hour shifts. You can choose from:
- DAY Shifts: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- NIGHT Shifts: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Part-time roles typically involve 2 x 12-hour shifts per week, offering a predictable schedule while allowing you to pursue other commitments. These positions include rotating weekend requirements to ensure comprehensive patient care coverage. Importantly, our part-time Patient Care Assistant jobs are benefit-eligible, providing access to valuable healthcare and wellness programs.
What You’ll Do as a Part-Time Patient Care Assistant
As a Patient Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in our patient care team, working under the delegation of Registered Nurses (RNs). Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing Basic Nursing Care: This includes taking vital signs and pulse oximetry, performing finger stick blood glucose tests, assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), and recording intake and output.
- Specimen Collection & Handling: You will be responsible for collecting urine, stool, and sputum specimens, and ensuring proper handling and labeling.
- Applying and Removing Medical Devices: This includes applying and removing compression hose and Sequential Compression Devices (SCDs).
- Managing Drainage Systems: You will be trained to empty drains, urinary catheters, NG tubes, and ostomies, maintaining accurate records.
- Maintaining a Safe and Clean Environment: You will ensure patient rooms and work areas are neat, clutter-free, and clean, adhering to infection control protocols.
- Implementing Fall Prevention Strategies: You will actively participate in fall prevention, especially for high-risk patients, including hourly rounds and prompt response to call lights.
- Observing and Reporting Patient Changes: You will promptly notify the RN of any changes in vital signs, mental status, skin integrity, pain levels, or other patient concerns.
- Documentation: Accurately document all tasks, intake and output, meal percentages, and observations in the O2 system.

Qualifications to Become a Part-Time PCA
We are looking for individuals who meet the following qualifications:
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
Required Licensure and Certification:
- Basic Life Support Heartsaver (BLS HS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) within 14 days of hire.
- One of the following:
- Certified Nurse Aide / Assistant (CNA) certification from the State Department for Aging and Disability Services (Health Occupations Credentialing).
- Medical Assistant Diploma.
- Documentation of Fundamentals of Nursing Course verifying required basic skills (required at time of hire).
- Minimum of 18 months in a specialty tech position.
- Completion of the Gold Standard Intern Program/Acute Care School with University of Kansas Health System.
Knowledge Requirements:
- Applicants aged 16 and 17 are eligible for PRN positions.
